The Emotional-Hormonal Loop: Mind-Body-Emotional Connection in Women’s Health

The Invisible Loop Between Emotions and Hormones

There is a deep interconnection between our emotions and our physical body. I believe our emotional triggers and reactions carry a soul purpose - each one offering insight, growth and healing, if we allow ourselves the space to sit quietly and ask yourself why? Why is this happening? What is this trying to teach me?

Yet alongside this emotional wisdom, there is also a physiological response unfolding within our body. When we are constantly triggered, reactive or in conflict with others, our bodies enter a sustained ‘stress response’, a state that over time, can take a toll on our wellbeing.

Becoming aware of this internal state is the first step toward meaningful change. Small, intentional shifts that invite calm and help you return to a centred place. It can profoundly support your emotional health and hormonal balance. Caring for your nervous system maintains the delicate equilibrium your hormones rely on.

Emotional triggers activate the stress response, raising cortisol levels, which then disrupts hormonal balance. This imbalance affects your mood, leading to more emotional upheaval and the cycle continues. Round and round it goes. It can become a continuous loop.

To break this emotional-hormonal loop’, we begin by having an awareness of our thoughts, words, actions and feelings. This self-reflection can help us understand how our inner world may be shaping our physical wellbeing.

Where does it show up in your body?

Our emotions are deeply intertwined with our hormonal health. A tense conversation, a moment of feeling unseen or the weight of daily responsibilities can spark an emotional response, activating the body’s stress system.

As these hormones fall out of sync, we may feel anxious, teary, irritable or emotionally flat. The body perceives this emotional state as further stress - continuing the loop. It’s the classic chicken-or-egg scenario: “Does the emotion trigger the hormone shift?” or “Does the hormonal imbalance heighten the emotion?”

In truth, it’s both. The nervous system and endocrine system are in constant conversation, what you feel emotionally, you also feel hormonally. And when calm is missing, your body speaks through mood, cycle and energy.

Your Frequency Matters: Emotions, Beliefs & the Body

I invite you to gently explore the idea that we are energetic beings, each resonating at our own unique frequency. The thoughts we think and the emotions we feel sending subtle signals out into the universe, shaping the energy we embody and attract.

When we are aligned with higher frequencies - such as love, peace, joy and abundance - we tend to draw more of those qualities into our lives. But when our energy lowers into fear, worry, negativity, sadness, envy or anger, it can create blockages that disrupt our natural flow. These emotional states are part of being human and naturally ebb and flow. Yet when certain feelings, thoughts or beliefs become repetitive or remain unresolved, they may begin to imprint themselves physically in our bodies.

Sometimes, these patterns operate quietly beneath the surface – in our subconscious, running in the background, influencing how we feel, respond and show up in the world. You may not be consciously aware of them, yet they can shape your wellbeing in profound ways. This is what I mean when I speak about getting to the root cause of a health condition. Often, it can be traced back to a moment of emotional hurt, shock to the system, a past trauma or a belief formed in childhood.

Healing begins with awareness. And from there, we gently unravel what no longer serves you, so your body can return to its natural rhythm of balance and vitality.

Menstrual Issues and the Sacral Chakra

Yes, menstrual challenges can stem from diet, stress and lifestyle - but I’ve discovered they may also be deeply connected to our emotions, beliefs and energetic patterns. When I began exploring the chakra system [the subtle energetic system] and its relationship to the body, I found that the uterus resides within the energetic field of the sacral chakra.

What emotional themes are connected to the sacral chakra?

It’s the seat of our creativity, sexuality, emotional intimacy and personal power. It’s about birthing new ideas, expressing ourselves in a creative way, honouring ourselves, our personal power. It’s about our intimate relationships - or lack of. When energy in this area feels blocked, excessive or painful, it’s worth gently asking:

  • What’s happening in your personal relationships?

  • Are you emotionally connected to others or do you feel isolated?

  • Do you feel safe expressing your sexuality or do you suppress it?

  • Is your sexual energy overactive or underactive?

  • Do you give your personal power away too easily or struggle to access it at all?

  • Do you have any creative outlets?

The sacral chakra, located in the lower abdomen, governs the reproductive organs, kidneys and pelvic region. Energetically, it’s connected to the element of water - representing flow, emotional depth and adaptability. When this centre becomes imbalanced, it may show up as menstrual irregularities, pelvic discomfort, urinary tract issues or vaginal infections. These physical symptoms may mirror deeper emotional patterns, unprocessed feelings or limiting beliefs held within the body’s energetic blueprint.

It’s also worth considering that this part of the body may hold imprints of past experiences, such as emotional shock, unresolved intimacy or stored trauma. These patterns often linger quietly, waiting for compassionate attention. Modalities like energetic healing, sound therapy, somatic practices and heart-led inquiry can support you to:

  1. Recognise what’s been held

  2. Acknowledge it with kindness

  3. Release what no longer serves

  4. Heal through presence and care

  5. Restore harmony to your body

Intimacy and the Energetics of the Sacral Chakra

I consider physical intimacy is more than just a bodily experience - it’s an energetic exchange. The quality of that exchange can leave subtle impressions in the sacral chakra, the energy centre associated with creativity, sexuality and emotional connection.

If you have ever felt unseen, unheard or undervalued during intimate moments, your body may have stored those feelings as energetic residue. You might gently ask yourself:

  • Did I feel respected and honoured?

  • Was the experience mutual and emotionally safe?

  • Do I feel empowered in my sexual expression or do I sometimes hold back?

  • Am I saying yes, when my heart is quietly saying no?

  • Do I feel free and safe enough to honour my needs, boundaries and desires?

Our bodies are wise. They often speak when we cannot. Sometimes, physical symptoms like discomfort in this region, low libido or feelings of unworthiness may arise as a way of protecting us, especially when we haven’t yet found the courage to speak our truth. In this way, the body becomes a guardian, creating space for healing until we are ready to reclaim our voice and power.

When we begin to listen to our bodies with compassion, we open the door to profound healing.

How I Combine Naturopathy and Intuition to Support You

I begin by asking detailed questions about the systems in your body. These physical clues help me understand what’s happening not only on a physiological level, but also energetically - where discomfort or imbalance may be showing up in your body. I’m always tuning in to where this energy might be sitting within your chakras, your subtle energy centres.

I primarily work with the seven main chakras - the root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye and crown. While there are more, these are most intimately connected to our physical bodies. Each organ and condition may carry an emotional and mental imprint shaped by our thoughts, feelings and experiences. I hold this with deep consideration in my work.

If you are curious to explore the emotional connection to your body further, The Body is the Barometer of the Soul by Annette Noontil offers insightful reflections. That said, I don’t treat any resource as absolute truth. We are beautifully complex and unique beings and healing is never one-size-fits-all. I trust my intuition to guide the process, and I encourage you to do the same. If something resonates deeply, follow it. If it doesn’t, gently let it go. Your heart and gut will always lead you toward what’s true for you.

As an empath, I also receive impressions through my own body. I may physically feel sensations that mirror yours or intuitively sense your emotions. For example, if you are experiencing pain or discomfort in a particular area, I might feel it too. I also tune into how you are feeling emotionally and where energetic blockages may be held.

This is why I prioritise staying clear, grounded and in a calm, neutral state - so I can distinguish between my own emotions and yours. It’s a skill that’s taken me many years to refine and it allows me to hold space with clarity and compassion.

I also receive guidance from my spiritual team - insights come through visions, thoughts and a deep inner knowing. My intention in every session is: How can I best support you, for your highest good?

Sometimes the root cause is physical. Other times, it’s emotional - how you are feeling in your relationships, your work, your home life, your friendships or your sense of purpose. Sometimes it’s to do with your thought patterns, what do you constantly think about or say out loud? Your thoughts and feelings play an important role in your health. There’s no judgement here. Chances are, I’ve walked a similar path or had similar thoughts, which allows me to meet you with empathy and understanding.

How I Use Frequency of Sound & Energy to Bring Back Balance

In my other offerings - like Soulwave [using the frequency of sound and reiki energy for healing] and the Inner Light session - we go deeper. I read energy. I may be guided to the places in your body and energetic field where there may be blockages or too much energy stored. Sometimes I receive channelled messages through visions and inner knowing from ancestral patterns or even past lives that may be influencing this lifetime. My role is to gently guide you, empower you and help you reconnect with your own innate ability to heal.

True healing begins within. It unfolds when you are ready to shift, to listen and to honour what your body and soul are asking for. My role isn’t to heal you - I simply hold space energetically, offer tools and walk beside you as you reconnect with your own innate capacity to heal, transform and restore balance.

Why Calm Is Essential

When we gently restore calm in our daily routine, we support our nervous and adrenal systems. Finding time to be with ourselves, to check in with our body, our heart - provides space for stillness and quiet. This is when our body can speak. Listen to it - you have all the answers if you allow that time to listen.

Finding CALM is one of the first steps toward reclaiming balance.
